Małgorzata Haduch, Paulina Owczarek, "KIO in Motion"
KIO in Motion is a joint project of improvising dancers and musicians from the Krakow Improvisers Orchestra. Two artists from Cracow – – Małgorzata Haduch – choreographer and dancer, and Paulina Owczarek – saxophonist and founder of Krakow Improvisers Orchestra (KIO), spontaneously create sound and movement with the use of the system of the so called conducted improvisation. The fusion of KIO and the group of international dancers who cooperate with Małgorzata Haduch, enabled the non-verbal language of KIO to be complemented and broadened by new gestures and signs, that allow the conductor to direct not only the musicians, but also the dancers.
Both conductors – Haduch and Owczarek – compose and direct music and choreography, the artists engaged, however, remain autonomous and unrestrained in actions; they have the space to interpret bodily signs, as well as the vocal and instrumental sounds according to their creativity and experience.
KIO in Motion confronts musicians and dancers with new phenomena and the unknown and invites them to ask questions about the process of creation and its transparency.

Krakow Improvisers Orchestra (KIO) – is a group that creates an improvised performance (free & conducted improvisation). It’s the use of non-verbal language based on a system of gestures and signals by means of which the conductor directs the actions of musicians and dancers. The prearranged signs refer to, for example, to volume or pace, giving the conductor some control over the structure of the composition, while simultaneously not depriving artists of their autonomy. KIO in Motion is a project that combines music and dance.
