A choreographer, pedagogue, and dancer, Krzysztof Szymański graduated from the Roman Turczynowicz State Ballet School in Warsaw, and received a diploma in ballet pedagogy from the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. His collaborations include a 25-year cooperation with the Folk Wisełka company of the Polish diaspora in Dortmund, for whom he has developed a number of choreographies. He also spent 12 years as a dancer at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera ballet company in Warsaw, where he performed as a soloist from 1977 through 1980. Having left Poland in 1981, he danced for Teatro dell’Opera di Roma that same year. He spent the following two seasons (1981/82 – 1982/83) with Theater Dortmund, later joining the Theater Oberhausen company, where he performed in the years 1983–1990.
He spent ten years as the chief pedagogue at the Theatre Ballet School in Krefeld and Mönchengladbach. He was also the founder of the State Music School in Mönchengladbach, which he also directed from 2005 through 2016. In the meantime, he worked as a visiting professor at Gymnasium Essen-Werden.
