Ewa Wycichowska

A dancer, choreographer, pedagogue, academic teacher and professor of music, Ewa Wycichowska is the head of the Dance Department at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, a full professor at the Academy of Physical Education in Poznań, and a former long-standing prima ballerina of the Łódź Grand Theatre. She graduated from the State Ballet College in Poznań, the Academy of Music in Warsaw, L’Academie Internationale de la Danse in Paris, and completed a post-graduate course for managers of cultures at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. She also did a choreographic internship at Nederlands Danse Theater in the Hague and at the London Contemporary Dance School, where she also mastered the art of collaboration with composers.
Ewa Wycichowska is the author of over 70 performances produced in Poland, Europe, and the USA.

From 1988 to 2016, she was the general and artistic director of the Polish Dance Theatre – Poznań Ballet. She also initiated and acted as the artistic director of Dancing Poznań (an international contemporary dance workshop and biennale and an international dance theatres’ festival). An expert with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, she is currently the artistic director of Dancing fairPlayce Poznań and serves as a juror with Polish and international dance competitions.

Wycichowska ranks among the few Polish woman dancers who have been successful both in classical and contemporary repertoires. She is the recipient of numerous prizes, among others the Silver and Golden Medal for Merit to Culture "Gloria Artis," the ZAiKS prize for outstanding choreographic output, the Award of the Polish Theatre Critics Section of the International Theatre Institute ITI-UNESCO for the promotion of Polish theatre culture abroad, as well as the Special Award of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in recognition of her contributions to Polish culture, the award of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage for Outstanding Cultural Personalities, the Artistic Prize of the City of Poznań, and the gold Hipolit Cegielski Medal Verba Docent – Exempla Trahunt.
